GLP1 dosing

How to Accurately Interpret and Understand Your GLP-1 Medication Dosage

Dear Patient,

We often receive messages stating, “I received 25 units or 0.25 ml in the first month, so why am I receiving the same 25 units or 0.25 ml in the second month when I paid more?”

This confusion typically arises from focusing solely on the volume (units or ml) administered rather than on the medication’s concentration. The volume you receive may remain consistent each month, but the concentration of the drug increases over time.

For example, in the first month, your prescription may be:

SEMAGLUTIDE/CYANOCOBALAMIN (1 ML) Injectable, 1/0.5 mg/ml

Inject 25 units weekly.

Here, the total amount of semaglutide you receive for the month is 1 mg, which, when divided across four weeks, equals 0.25 mg (or 25 units) each week.

By the third month, your prescription may change to:

SEMAGLUTIDE/CYANOCOBALAMIN (1 ML) Injectable, 5/0.5 mg/ml

Inject 25 units weekly.

While the volume remains the same at 25 units, the concentration has increased from 1/0.5 mg/ml to 5/0.5 mg/ml. This adjustment means that, in the third month, you receive 1 mg of semaglutide each week, compared to 0.25 mg per week in the first month.
